A new dimension, Three Springs, has just appeared on the public test shard. As with Moonshade Pools, Three Springs can be purchased for 300 platinum and has a 1000 item limit. It incorporates the village of Three Springs (without the little houses) and the town hall, hollowed out for our use. Even better, it includes the bridge, the stairs down to the dock area and the flat land just above the dock where the solitary house stood. Three Springs is as large as Moonshade Pools; even better, it’s barrier on the waterfall side is exactly where Moonshade Pools finishes. What a shame we can’t nominate our favourite Moonshade dimension to ‘view’ across the way.
There are plenty of places to build and decorate. The town hall is an interesting structure, more interesting than the Stone Flask Tavern. It has the upper story and balcony of the building and room divisions for different areas, all focused around the fireplace. I love that the stairs, bridge and gully below the bridge are included. Nooks and crannies like these offer so much potential for unusual builds.
What is disappointing is exactly where the barrier finishes on the waterfall side. Again, this dimension is land locked, with only a sliver of the area below the waterfall to swim in. The dock is cut off at the edge as is all the ocean area surrounding Three Springs.
When I look at these two areas, I see missed opportunities, the first being the chance to use some of those fished up boats that are accumulating in our banks. There is only one dimension, Shoreward Isle, that can use boats in a natural setting. Three Springs, with a built-in dock and ocean by it’s door, would make a great small port if the dock was accessible.
The other missed opportunity is for player interaction. There are only so many ways visitors can interact with a dimension, mostly involving running, jumping and swimming. The barrier does include a little of the river below the waterfall for swimming but it would be nice to have the whole pool to build swimming type stuff.
Other goodies appearing on the PTS are dimension houses, a mossy hut, mossy house and large mossy house. Be prepared to pay large sums of platinum for these items, as the mossy hut goes for 120 platinum and the large mossy house for 300 platinum. Did you reel with shock at those prices? Don’t worry, you can buy discounted houses in bulk by buying the mossy village kit. Five huts, two houses and one large house for a mere 1150 platinum. Feel better now? No, neither did I.
The extraordinary price suggests that there will be additional functionality for these items. They are meant to be hollow, to act as expandable, movable housing we can decorate though they do not yet work this way on the PTS.
If you would like to take a peek at the new additions, I have a Three Springs dimension, with move permissions along with the mossy hut and large mossy house, on the PTS under the name Radishme. If the PTS isn’t available to you, Talila has made a video of the new dimension.
The Rift forum thread for added extra reading can be found here and Rift Dream Dimensions also has an article on the subject. Happy anticipation till this dimension makes it to live.
Thanks for posting about this, Radish. Unless the houses are habitable I cannot imagine buying them. And in the Three Springs dimension, it’s too bad that the water is tantalizingly close but we can’t access it. Enough to be a bit irritating.
Faratha just posted on the forums that the houses will be hollowed out and habitable when they go live. Yay! http://forums.riftgame.com/rift-general-discussions/dimensions/358223-three-springs-3.html#post4240430
It makes sense. All that cost had to be for something. I still think they’re too expensive at that price. When you have to choose between a dimension item and a 1000 item dimension for a similar price then the pricing is wrong.
I agree with you on this, Radish. Even the hut costs more than Faen’s Retreat or Central Necropolis. One item vs. 760 isn’t much of a comparison in my opinion, but that’s just me.
Agree. I didn’t know there would be several options but I expected the smallest to be about 50p. Having an entire village for 1150p seems very reasonably priced compared to the others. Anyone know if the village becomes individual items once you “unpack” it? Or does it place all eight items at once?
It will unpack into separate items, Jaed. It comes in a gift package.
Thanks Radish, that’s pretty awesome. I now plan to buy the village instead of the individual huts.
