The green man ([L’OD] La Viellie Dame by Hehn@Brisesol) is made from logs and trees and stumps, cleverly mimicking the human body. The length and breadth of logs are of similar proportions to human limbs, helping to create the illusion of arms and legs. The lines of the green man are softened by the use of trees and shrubs to provide smaller details like hair and face.
Hehn has created a ferocious, angry man. The giant club helps convey anger but the posture of the statue contributes to this impression. Emotion is suggested by the angle of arms and legs as the green man strides up the hill to bonk unfortunate visitors on the head.
Rocks may seem an unlikely start for a statue but on a grand enough scale, they can be turned into miracles. Atraius@Akala has patiently shaped a ton of rocks into a hindu statue in his dimension, Shao Dra. My mind boggles at the amount of work and vision that went into this piece.
When constructing massive statues like these, you don’t need to limit yourself to one type of item. Kirizhe (Shrine of the Gryphon by Kirizhe@Deepwood) has used rocks, planks, poles, dragon scales and ivory menhirs for the gryphon at the heart of the dimension.
Creating a large statue may seem like a daunting task but giant morphs follow the same rules as smaller ones, shape suggests function. Look at your log or rock, twirl it around shrink and enlarge it, add a second and see where it takes you. When morphing stuff, don’t have too firm a goal in mind, often what we start out to create is not the finished product. Nor are such large objects the perfect building block. Don’t strive for a perfect creation of your vision; none of the creations here are perfect, rather it is their imperfections that add charm and humanity to the build.
If you do try your hand at rock and tree morphing, start with a physically large dimension, none of these items scale small. Use that wonderful add-on, Magic Carpet to fly around for an aerial view of the structure. Step back from your creation to see the larger picture; distance is your friend when it comes to large builds.
Most important of all, give it a go. If it doesn’t work, nobody needs to see it and if it does? You can join the illustrious ranks of giant morphers like Kirizhe, Atraius and Hehn.
