It’s like I’m holding my breath for the 12th of June. The anticipation and uncertainty about the game, after free2play goes live, is hard to bear. There are so many changes to dimensions about to happen, it’s all rather overwhelming. I thought I’d collect all the changes in one spot for a handy reference.
Disclaimer: since this information is direct from the Public Test Shards, it may change between now and live release.
Patch 2.3 will bring four new dimensions. Hailol and Temple of the Abandoned can be purchased for platinum or credits and are 600 and 760 level 4 item limit, respectively. The dimensions, Edge of Infinity and Endless Eclipse are available from loyalty rewards. Edge of Infinity is from the purple tier of loyalty, Endless Eclipse is red (both 1260 item limit at level 4). Rift Dream Dimensions has a video tour of the two loyalty dimensions. (Faen’s Retreat is the green tier dimension.)
The green, blue and purple tiers of loyalty also have dimension item packs. Green grants 17 dimension items, while blue and purple grant 21 each. Each toon, old and new, will receive the dimensions and dimension packs when the account reaches that level of loyalty. The dimension items are soulbound, rumour has it, and random for each toon. I’ve yet to test this out on the PTS.
Higher Item Limit
Long have we cried for a higher item limit for our dimensions. Now we finally get our wish. Tier 5 has been added to the PTS. It will be very expensive to purchase by credits or platinum.
Dimension achievements are now in game. Place 1000 building blocks in dimensions for the achievement “Construction Crew of One” or place a pile of snow in Kestrel’s Cry Ravine for “Dimension Overkill”. The achievements for dimensions can be found under character/role-playing in the achievements list.
Complete all dimension achievements for “Dimension Tycoon” which grants A Bottle of Wine from Maliana. This lets you place Maliana, the dimension visitor, in your dimension.
New Dimension Items
Trion have been busy churning out hundreds of new dimension items. Best estimate is that close to 1000 new items will be entering the game, probably not all on June 12th. I expect some items we see currently on the store to be reserved for special promotions and holiday events. (See Free2Play: Free2Pay for a better description of new items.)
While most items can be purchased with either platinum or credits, crystals and planar items (one for each plane) bought with planarite will also be on the store. Instance items, like the Citizen’s Telescope, Spiral Cedar Tree and the Red Worldstrangler Root, are available for credit only, as are some items that look suspiciously like fishing items.
Dendrome Faction Rewards
The factions associated with the Dendrome have some of the new items, placed behind notoriety. The Achyati (whom, I’m guessing, are ogres) have Achyati Ogre Tent, Achyati Ogre Fireplace, Achyati Ogre Well, Achyati Ogre Pot. You’ll have to earn decorated with the Achyati to buy these lovelies.
The Empyreal Alliance, on reaching decorated, will sell you weapons of minor destruction. The Empyreal Mortar Cannon, Nexus Cannon and Empyreal Assault Pad are everything you need to fend off that tricksy stronghold invasion.
The Hailol are a lively hearted bunch, drinking and carousing being their main concern. After partying your way to decorated, the Hailol will sell you spiral, teardrop, love and hailol trees in any colour so long as it’s carnation.
Old World Faction Rewards
Nor have the old world notorieties been neglected, a few dimension items have been added to The Keepers and Dragon Slayers Covenant. The Kelari Column (revered) and the Narrow Kelari Column (decorated) are available from The Keepers while the Shimmersand Dragon Skull (Honored) is available from the Dragon Slayers Covenant.
This is a nice change. Dimensions are not well integrated into the old world and new players don’t really have a chance to indulge until higher levels, this gives them something to strive for. I’m hoping this is introduced to all the old world notoriety. It’s a change that makes my patron benefits more attractive, as I don’t yet have the required notoriety with these factions.
Artifact Dimension Items
The Dendrome sees the introduction of the largest artifact collection yet. Hailol Brewing, at 32 artifacts, will keep us running around looking for shinies for a very long while. Treble discovered one of the set and posted the rewards on the forums. This opens up the possiblility of other dimension items gained through artifact collecting but we won’t know more until people start discovering the many artifact sets introduced in 2.3.
That’s all I’ve discovered on the PTS so far, I’m sure there are still a few more surprises from Trion in the works. Now to start breathing again or I’ll never make it to June 12th.
