All sorts of goodies are on the horizon for dimensions. In a State of Dimensions post on the Rift Dimensions forum, Faratha discussed some upcoming features and changes to dimensions. First off, Faratha discusses the size and limits of dimensions and gives us some insight into the design process of dimensions.
As a design principle, dimensions were made larger than the item totals assigned could fill, allowing dimensioneers greater choice in where to build in their dimensions. This led to comments that players cannot ‘fill’ their dimensions. In response, Faratha will be making smaller rather than larger dimension areas. In future, players will be able to fill the available space with the dimension’s assigned item limit and not think their dimensions are too empty.
Some dimensions really were too big. I don’t know how many times I’ve ridden around Central Necropolis checking every cave and hut for signs of activity. I am hoping that smaller boundaries will still leave enough space to have a choice in where to build in our dimensions. Existing dimensions will not be shrinking in size but Tuldio Sun Orb and Plaza Aurentine will be increasing as they both were too small for their item limits. Expect to dance on the patio in Tuldio and swim in the Plaza Aurentine soon. The other news that accompanies this announcement – dimension item limits will not be increasing in the near future.
Have you all noticed that the fishing and promotional items are now all Bind on Account (BoA)? Our banks breathe a sigh of relief. BOA items cannot be placed in guild dimensions, but at least we can now store them away on alts. This leaves Gartyn Hejmes as the only soulbound dimension item. We’ll miss seeing Gartyn in our guild dimensions.
While we’re on the subject of fishing items, we are more likely to receive cherry trees and less likely to find another long workbench in our fishing boxes, at least for old world fishing. The percentage chances for items to drop has been revisited with the less common items receiving a boost in drop rate. A blessing for those wanting cherry trees, a curse for those wanting enough wooden coffins to build a stairway to the top of Dormant Core.
The new, extra large size of fished up items like the barges, log bridges and Ember Isle Giant Palm is a trend that will continue. More jumbo items will be released including re-sizable houses. Faratha confirmed that the mossy houses in Threesprings, Moonshade Highlands will become dimension items. Those houses will look great in the new dimension, Moonshade Pools. First prize winner, Kumberlin’s first choice was Moonshade Pools and this was accepted by Trion. Her other first choice, Threesprings, may also be released as a dimension later on. Dwarves everywhere rejoice, your dreams have come true!
Moonshade Pools is a beautiful area, I do so hope the waterfalls and all three pools are included in the dimension, I’d buy it in the blink of an eye. As the area is rather devoid of features, the simpler preparation to make it a dimension should mean we won’t have to wait too long for it’s release. Threesprings would make a great guild dimension. The town hall would make a great guild hall and the smaller town houses represent the living spaces for guild members. It would be nice to see another level 1 guild dimension with a different feel to Stone Flask Tavern.
It seems dimensions are in a pretty good place at the moment, with new dimensions in the works and some very welcome new dimension items to look forward to.
