Good news, everyone! Fishing items are going account bound in patch 2.2. No longer must we level fishing on poor neglected alts, or find bank space for a dozen soulbound items. Our storage dimensions and alts are happy again. Thank you, Trion, for hearing our pleas and acting.
Promotional items, like the Fae Yule present pile and candy canes, are still soulbound on the Public Test Realm. The new promotional item (Prize Village Lamppost) from voting in ‘The Joy of Dimensions’ contest is also soulbound. While it’s nice that my souvenir of the contest has a special name, that makes three promotional items that each toon needs to find bank space for. Even worse, Kumberlin reports the possibility of more promotional items released through RIFT Watch. (RIFT Watch is Trion’s newsletter. You can subscribe through your account settings for Rift. If you received the candy canes for Christmas, you have subscribed.) Keep your fingers crossed that Trion relent on this and make promotional items bind-to-account.
In another stealth nerf, Gartyn’s amphora, home of Gartyn Hejme, the failed dimensional engineer, has been made soulbound. Repeat sentence about storage, change number to four. It’s becoming a familiar refrain isn’t it?
It seems that personal dimensions are going to diverge from guild dimensions. Account bound items cannot be placed in guild dimensions and community manager, Faratha, let loose the information that guild only dimension items will be available from guild level 25 quests. If you were hanging out for the specimen display for your personal dimension, then let me gently crush your hopes now. This item is one of the guild only quest rewards.
I’m saddened by this news; there is nothing more frustrating than having the perfect item for use in your dimension but be unable to use it because of an arbitrary division. The success of division of dimensions by guild lines remains to be seen. With the account bound fishing items, personal dimensions have much greater choice than guild dimensions. While Trion do have plans to ensure that guild dimensions have their own special items, if it requires level 25 guilds, a lot of people with vanity guild dimensions are going to be left as poor cousins to the larger guilds.
With each new restriction on dimension use, I regret more and more my decision to buy a guild dimension. Still, there are plenty of items to play with and more arriving soon, it’s not all doom and gloom on the dimension front.
