Food is so much a part of our lives. It’s both a necessity and a luxury. It’s also also missing from the list of dimension items. Some very clever solutions have arisen to the problem of feeding the hungry. We look at how to display food to it’s best advantage and give simple recipes for our readers to follow at home. This Inspirations is dedicated to the clever dimensioneers object-morphing food into existence.
A well laid out table is a must for appeasing both the eye and the taste buds. “Camelot”, by Zero Tolerance on Icewatch, have the best table I’ve seen. It’s a veritable feast and I wish they’d invite me.
Zero Tolerence dress up their table with a condiments tray of alabaster amphora, blue lidded amphora, rice and lentil barrels and an orange corked jug. Hmm I wonder what’s in the blue lidded amphora? Mustard? And that mining cart looks like a vegetable curry to me. Green spotted urns and the top half of seascape amphorae are used as cups and mugs, while tribal tables are used as plates. Other foods are straight forward, a basket of carrots or cucumbers, a barrel of apples all represent themselves. The morphed dishes are the centerpiece of the feast. Half the fun of a display like this is figuring out what the dishes might taste like.
Other ways to display food fit into smaller spaces. Raid Them All of Argent provide their guild members with savory treats from a food bar attached to the kitchen of Fort Knott. A plated barrel of fish and a dish of asparasticks go with rice and lentils. Apples provide a tart palette cleanser between dishes.
Cariina of Faeblight links the bogling fishing pole with a barrel of fish and creates a sushi bar. Fish, rice and artichokes provide a touch of normalcy, but for the adventurous, low-hanging fruit become sea cucumbers, blue and white party balloons make a fine caviar and the life dragon mote transforms into a melon.
Cooking in dimensions is may seem hard but our simple recipes will have you morphing like a professional. Just follow these simple instructions.
Ribs and Cactus: Take one iron cauldron and sink into the table. Turn one six-pronged idol upside down and place in the middle of your dish at an angle, place the sheep rib cage over the top. Shrink your Karthian cactus clumps and layer neatly around your ribs. A simple garnish with decorative red sweetberries and evergreen shrub make for a mouth watering treat. A lighter green garnish contrast may be provided with an inverted flower; blue jungle flowers or orange broadleaf come to mind.
Roast beef and potatoes: Grab yourself a six tied sacks, flip em over and gently position in the dish. Roast potatoes (made with the ends of wood bundles) go so well with beef. Once satisfied with your placing, garnish with decorative red sweetberries and evergreen shrub.
Artichair Leaves: Grab a bunch of small maple chairs, shrink and stir. Arrange artistically on your plate. Garnish with the green leaves of a potted palm.
Asparasticks: Wood bundles, pealed and lightly blanched, are layered with a clump of bluebell leaves (just turn that bluebell over and wash well). Decorative red sweetberries provide much needed colour to this dish.
Two tier chocolate gateau: This rich chocolate gateau will be sure to please the sweet tooth. Two pink urns of different sizes, tiered one on top of the other, form the base for this treat. Pink ground cover sandwiched between layers provide color while a pile of snow and those versatile sweetberries provide a colourful topping.
