Ah, that elusive +1 recommending a dimension to the public. It seems that the more votes a dimension has, the more it receives, while equally excellent dimensions lower in the field struggle to be noticed. This regular series looks at the best a shard has to offer with one condition – the dimension is not already in the top 10 on the shard. Anyone can find the top 10 but ferreting out those lesser known gems for appreciation is a job for the incorrigible dimension-hopper.
I’ve picked the recommended dimensions for their style, innovation or entertainment value; they all have that elusive quality that made me go wow! This post, I recommend under-appreciated dimensions on my home shard of Greybriar.
Aerial Storm Castle
Aerial Storm Castle/Shoreward Island, by Gabriael, is a new contender to the dimensions scene with his dimension opening on the 9th of December. It is an architectural masterpiece of design, with magnificent sweeping stairs leading to a Gothic style castle. Gabriael has placed all his efforts in recreating the feel of a proper grand manor. Gabriael’s castle is not for the explorer, with just two rooms and a balcony, rather for wonder and inspiration. The unusual use of materials had me in awe of his style and precision. It’s enough to give the average dimensioneer feelings of inadequacy, so let me mention that Gabriael is formally trained in design and architecture.
Breech Xmas/Breech Chamber, by Loip, was the first dimension I encountered that lived up to the interior of Breech Chamber. Loip decorates in bone. Who knew that the main place to shop for Breech Chamber would be the Necropolis Caretakers? Grim suits the Breech Chamber and this version is currently decorated for Christmas.
Imperial Star Destroyer
Imperial Star Destroyer/Shoreward Isle, by Liminsathil. Massive. Monolithic. It was big. Really, really, big. No, bigger than that. It was big! The name says it all. This is one idea writ large and worth a peek. (This dimension has moved and seems to have found a permanent home on Shatterbone)
The Radish Inn and Maze
The Radish Inn and Maze/Stone Flask Tavern, by Instability. First off, let me announce my own prejudice, as this is one of my own dimensions. That being said, the Radish Inn and Maze meets all the criteria for this article on both innovation and fun. This dimension is divided into two sections; the interior, a showcase for Radish’s decorating style, and the maze where Radish’s whimsical humor is on display. The fun starts in the aerial, three dimensional maze, starting at the rear decking of the inn. While traveling through the maze, watch out for the creatures and people that inhabit it. Points of interest are the fire ants (they don’t bite, least not yet), the Three Wise Mice (See, Hear, Speak and their brother, Do No Evil), the diving board and the outhouse. If you love exploring nooks and crannies, this is the dimension for you.
Update: Sadly this dimension was destroyed in a terrible accident and no longer exists.
All these dimensions are worthy of more votes than they currently have, so if you can vote while visiting, give their owners a little ego boo with a +1. Happy dimensioning!
