Christmas is fast approaching and it’s time to start spreading that Christmas cheer. It’s nice entering a dimension and seeing the unmistakable signs of Christmas. Mostly, I’ve seen Christmas trees and snowmen but not a lot else. I’m sure that will rapidly change when Fae Yule hits the shards and we have access to the Fae Yule dimension items. Still, there are other ways to bring Christmas to our dimensions using the items available. The dimension ‘Merry Xmas, Greybriar’, uses ordinary items to celebrate the holiday. While it has room for Fae Yule specific items, the main scene does not rely on them. Check it out and get inspired for your own special Christmas.
In the nativity scene, the people are created using burlap sacks for bodies, tied sacks for heads, orange corked jug for hands and feet and wood bundles for arms and legs. Toefluff, the owner of this dimension, is part of the Radish family of alts and this is a typical example of my work. (The other Radish dimension is ‘The Radish Inn and Maze’ on Greybriar.) Toefluff’s dimension is temporary, this scene will be torn down on January 12th to make way for a valentine dimension. It is also a work under construction, so pop back later to check out new additions.
The three wise men were a particular challenge. Creating faces is not yet an option since most dimension items don’t scale small enough to represent human features. Attitude and purpose must be conveyed by body language rather than features. The one facial feature I could create, is the mustache and beard, made using metal poles.
The garden path leads to Santa’s room and as soon as I figure out how to build a Santa, he’ll be waiting there for the children, large and small, to whisper what they want for Christmas.
I’d like to see more Christmas dimensions so if you see one on your travels please send me details of the owner, dimension name and shard.
